About HPECC

Our HPECC Mission

The mission of the Hornet Park Early Childhood Center (HPECC) is to provide a safe and developmentally-appropriate environment in which children are nurtured in social, emotional, physical,  and cognitive growth, while developing a love for learning and establishing a strong foundation from which students will build success in kindergarten and beyond!

Our HPECC Philosophy

Our philosophy for teaching young children is built upon developmentally appropriate practices and knowledge.  We strive to create a loving and nurturing environment in which our students are successful and build a positive school relationship.  We will provide our students with predictable routines, enriching activities, and a strong classroom community.  We will build relationships with our students’ families and invite them to participate in our classroom community.  We will use our knowledge of early childhood development and ongoing training to provide a quality learning environment in which all students are successful!

A Note from our Principal

I am thrilled to welcome you to the Hornet Park Early Childhood Center, HPECC!

Construction is complete on the Hornet Park site and year #1 of the HPECC has been a huge success. The completed HPECC has incredible preschool classrooms, each with bathrooms, individual cubby lockers, moveable furniture to promote a range of learning experiences and imaginative/creative play, flexible table space for working and eating, cots for resting, and toys/supplies to delight and enrich our students. The HPECC also has a designated age-appropriate outdoor playground, an indoor gross-motor play space, and access to all of the offerings of Hornet Park Elementary School such as the STEM lab, library, and community garden. The HPECC spaces are designed in a natural color pallet with beautiful themes and attributes. While the physical space is fresh and fantastic, the best feature is our STUDENTS and the learning that takes place within the HPECC!

Expanding our Hornet Park Elementary School building to include the HPECC is a wonderful opportunity to provide high-quality early childhood programming to our children as an integral addition of a long-trusted school with a reputation for loving students and teaching them what they need to be successful! We are honored to help HPECC students increase their kindergarten readiness and bridge the gap from early childhood to elementary school.

The HPECC is providing our boys and girls with a supreme start to their educational journey at home here in BGCS.  Our students are enjoying increased confidence and independence, realizing growth in school readiness skills, and reaping the benefits of early, rich instruction and appropriate intervention in a fun, play-based environment through a nurturing approach with a family feel.  We believe this strong start will lead into a smooth and successful transition to Kindergarten, and to ultimately culminate in a fantastic finish when they graduate from our fine BGHS!!!!

Beech Grove is a special city, with very special schools, and an incredibly special Early Childhood Center!
