Parent COVID Notification and Important COVID Testing Information

Parents,

We want to make you aware of some recently released information from the CDC and the Indiana State Department of Health. This is in an effort to prevent your children from possibly being tested multiple times and you having multiple bills to pay.  Due to the decreased reliability of rapid/antigen nasal swabs for COVID-19, we cannot accept a negative result from a rapid test for someone who has symptoms. Please speak with your child's medical care provider for guidance on testing. If your child is tested,  please provide the results and a note from the medical care provider in order for your child to return to school.

Please read the attached letter from Dr. Kaiser regarding a positive COVID case of one student at South Grove Intermediate School.

January 25, 2021

 Dear Hornets,

I want to thank the individual who notified us of their positive COVID test and for those families and staff who have done a great job of practicing good behaviors such as wearing a mask, frequent hand washing, social distancing, and staying home when they are feeling ill.     Please continue to alert us to any positive COVID tests in your household, even during virtual/eLearning, and also when school is in session in our school buildings, by continuing to keep your student home from school when she/he is feeling ill, or if they, or anyone in your household, is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test.

We were notified of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis today of one of our South Grove Intermediate students; and, as a result, have identified first contacts and advised those contacts to quarantine.   We ask that all staff and students maintain a heightened awareness to remain vigilant in your efforts to combat COVID-19 by continuing to socially distance, wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and monitoring your health symptomsWe must do better with adhering to these precautions in our own households and in the community to keep the virus out of our schools.  In accordance with Marion County Public Health Department guidelines, staff members and families of students who were a first contact with the affected individuals were personally notified and instructed to quarantine.  If you have not been personally notified, your child is NOT a first contact in this situation.

Please know that we want to be as transparent as possible, while respecting and stringently following required HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) regulations.

We ask for your understanding, as dealing with a virus during a pandemic is new to all of us.  We ask that these topics not be discussed on Facebook, as many times misinformation is shared, which only adds to the stress and uncertainty of our families.

In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me with your questions or concerns.  I can be reached via my cell: 317-445-6506, or via email: pkaiser@bgcs.k12.in.us

 Sincerely,

 Paul A. Kaiser, PhD.
