Marion County Public Health Order Re: Schools

November 12, 2020

Dear Hornet Families,

As you may have seen on social media and on our local television outlets, the Marion County Health Department is in the process of issuing a Public Health Order that will require all Marion County Schools, including Beech Grove City Schools, to return to an all-virtual, eLearning platform no later than Monday, November 30.  This Public Health Order will extend through at least Friday, January 15.  Extra-curricular and sporting events can only include participants, parents, guardians, and support personnel.

Marion County high schools are currently at an 18 percent positivity rate, middle schools are at 14 percent, and elementary schools are at eight percent.  Yesterday, Marion County recorded more than 700 new COVID-19 cases.

Mayor Hogsett and Dr. Caine have recommended scaling back Thanksgiving gatherings due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Marion County and across the state of Indiana.

We are forming our plan for BGCS and commit to communicating that plan to you no later than Monday, November 16.

These are difficult times.  Please continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing, frequently wash your hands, and monitor your health symptoms.  The fate of our community rests in our hands and our behaviors inside our schools and in our own homes and community.

Stay safe and well, Hornets,

Paul A. Kaiser, PhD.

Superintendent
