Dear Hornets,
I want to thank the individual who notified us of their positive COVID test, and for our
families and staff who have done a great job of practicing good behaviors such as wearing a
mask, frequent hand washing, social distancing, and staying home when they are feeling ill.
Because of your efforts, since we opened our campus for summer activities on July 1, we
have had only eight individuals with positive COVID tests. Please continue to alert us to any
positive COVID tests in your household and to continue to keep your student home from
school when she/he is feeling ill.
We were notified of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis of a member of our South Grove family
today, Tuesday, September 29. We ask that all staff and students maintain a heightened
awareness to remain vigilant in your efforts to combat COVID-19 by continuing to social
distance, wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and monitoring your health
symptoms. In accordance with Marion County Public Health Department guidelines,
families of students who were a first contact with the affected individual were notified and
instructed to quarantine. If you have not been personally notified, your child is NOT a
first contact in this situation.
We have a standard process to alert all BGCS families and staff when a positive case is
reported to us. And, we continue to work on ways to make the reporting easier for all
involved. Please know that we want to be as transparent as possible, while respecting and
stringently following required HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) regulations.
We ask for your understanding, as dealing with a virus during a pandemic is new to all of us.
We ask that these topics not be discussed on Facebook, as many times misinformation is
shared, which only adds to the stress and uncertainty of our families.
In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me with your questions or concerns. I can
be reached via my cell: 317-445-6506, or via email: pkaiser@bgcs.k12.in.us
Sincerely,
Paul A. Kaiser, PhD.
